Fat Transfer

Fat transfer can add natural-looking volume to different parts of your body and create a more youthful appearance.

The technique involves extracting fat by liposuction, processing, and then reinjecting into the area needing improvement. The aim is to remove unwanted fat from an area of the body, such as the tummy or thighs, and use it to add volume to your face, butt, breasts or other body parts. The results of a fat transfer are long-lasting and more permanent than fillers. Fat transfer can be a long-term solution to reversing the effects of aging and give you the right curves for your body.

It’s important to work with a plastic surgeon like Doctor John Hsu who has extensive experience performing fat transfer because it requires a high degree of skill.

Fat transfer procedures can last longer than traditional fillers, which may need replacement over time.

Results from fat transfer are permanent. However, not all fat cells survive the procedure, so you may not achieve the volume you want. While fat is an easily damaged tissue, the structural fat grafting method injects fat to give it access to a blood supply, which makes it last. It takes about four to six months for the injected fat cells to develop a new blood supply and to see final results.

More about Fat Transfer Procedure

Fat transfer can add natural-looking volume to different parts of your body and create a more youthful appearance. Specifically, fat transfer can:

  • Improve the look of your breasts, buttocks, face, and hips

  • Create higher cheekbones

  • Enhance your waist-hip ratio or create an hourglass shape.

  • Fill in wrinkles on your face, such as below your eyes.

  • Increase the size of your buttocks.

  • Reduce wrinkles on your hands.

Once you and Doctor Hsu have decided on a donor site, the fat is harvested from that area by making a small incision. Once the fat is harvested, it is processed in a special centrifuge that will separate the viable fat cells. Only the most viable fat cells will be injected into the desired area. Usually, local anesthesia is sufficient for the procedure. You can usually return to work within a few days, but should avoid strenuous activity, aerobic exercise and heavy lifting until incisions are healed.
