Meet Doctor Hsu

Dr. John Hsu is the founder of the Bellavita Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Torrance, California. He believes good surgery begins with listening. Every patient arrives with different goals, anatomy, and concerns, so Dr. Hsu takes the time to understand each one and designs a plan around that person. He chooses quality over quantity: unhurried consultations, careful technique, and attentive follow-up, rather than a high-volume practice.

Training and Certification

Dr. Hsu is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. His training spans the breadth of the specialty. After earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, he completed a general surgery residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, a Weill Cornell Medical College affiliate in New York, where he served as Chief Resident. He then completed a fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery in Philadelphia, again as Chief Resident. His training included burn, hand, craniofacial, and pediatric plastic surgery. It also included rotations in breast surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and burn and critical care at Weill Cornell. He also studied Asian eyelid surgery and aesthetic surgery at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan.

Education and Research

Before medicine, Dr. Hsu earned a bachelor's degree in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from UCLA and a master's degree in Health Policy and Management from New York University. He conducted research at some of the nation's leading institutions, including Harvard Medical School/Beth Israel Hospital, the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, and UCLA Medical Center. His work there spanned emergency medicine and orthopedic research. He has since authored or co-authored publications in plastic surgery, burn care, hand surgery, and orthopedic research.
